The Resurrection Gives Hope to All Who Stand for Liberty

Today, Christians around the world celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.  The very basis of salvation hinges on the Resurrection having happened.  In Romans 10:9 (NIV), Paul writes, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Without Christ’s Resurrection, there is no hope for us to overcome physical death.  If the one who worked miracles and lived a sinless life couldn’t overcome the grave, then there is no hope for anyone on this planet to expect to enter into eternal life.

After Christ was crucified, the disciples were shaken, terrified, and dismayed.  They had just seen Jesus whipped, beaten, mocked, and crucified like a common criminal.  Evil appeared to have won, that is, until the moment that altered the course of human history.

The empty tomb.  That moment marked the victory of Christ over sin and death.  Those who rely on Christ for salvation owe no debt for sin and rebellion.  It was all poured out on Him on the cross.  This doesn’t mean that man’s sinful nature is fully restrained.  Most will choose to reject this gift.  The wise accept it, and those even wiser move forward with boldness and seek to institute righteousness and justice throughout all the Earth.  More about taking dominion can be found in Ephesians 1:21.

I do not intend to conflate the most important event in the history of the world with an era of massive government corruption and political turmoil, but at the same time, I resent those who claim to have a saving faith but are unwilling to mix it up for the sake of preserving liberty for the next generation or fight back against the horrible evils plaguing our society.

The similarities between our dire situation today and those experienced by the Continental Army in the winter of 1777-78 are striking.  Washington’s troops had been getting clobbered up and down the seaboard and frontier, and the American experiment seemed destined to be a short lived one.  As I’ve shown in a previous post, the American troops took some time to get wind under their wings, and started splitting battles with the British in 1779.  Soon, victory would be at hand.

We owe our nation’s very existence to the providence of God in allowing a rebellion of colonies to defeat the world’s most powerful empire.  Our founders believed that men were made in God’s image (that is, with an undying spirit), and as such, are worthy of dignity.  With dignity comes inalienable rights that our founders enshrined in our founding documents.  John Adams said it best when he said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

Without God, there is no America.  There is certainly a land mass bordering two oceans, covered in forests, lakes, mountains, and rivers, but nothing resembling that which was brought forth by the brave heroes who founded this nation.  Things are dark now, but God comes through when things are at their worst.  We must work toward the goals of restoring and preserving liberty, without fear of retribution.  We cannot expect God to honor prayers to deliver America if we do not get out there and take risks ourselves.  Christ risked all and gave all in tearing down the barrier that separated man from God.  Things seemed dark when he was put in the tomb; however, his Resurrection put to death all the fears, worries, and sadness experienced in that time for those who would cling to it.

Likewise, the very existence of a Resurrection tells us that all things are possible if we drive forward with courage and faith in God.
