Honest, transparent, clear cut, and to the point. The very reason I ended up subscribing to you on Substack and dumped my subscription to WSJ because they lost that edge with their new liberals long ago. You are an excellent analyst!

I was between jobs for a year in 2022-23 (funny enough, I did learn to code around this time, but was never hired for this skillset). During this one-year transition period, at the age of 45, I was loading FedEx trailers, and driving an Amazon delivery van for a couple months. I had to dip into my savings until I found the next full-time gig. The federal employees who were laid off will have to learn the hard way.

God is always at work in our lives, even when we can’t or don’t want to see it. Thank you for sharing this as a testimony to his refining fire. I will with great joy renew my paid subscription to your gift of writing for the third time when it comes due. All I have comes from Him.

Thank you for this. I saw the diatribe from the laid off park ranger floating around FB yesterday and had similar feelings. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps baby. Life can be tough. Stop crying about it on social media and move on. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Blond Girl's tweets remind me of a quote I read from legendary football coach Vince Lombardi, after someone asked him if he ever felt sorry for someone he had to cut.

"I do feel badly for those players who worked their ass off every day, who gave everything they had, and tried as best they could but they simply didn't have the God-given talent to succeed.

But everyone else? The people who don't give more 100% every day, or fake injuries, or continually look for shortcuts because they are too lazy to care as much about this team as much as they should? I couldn't care less telling them there's no place for them on my football team."

That's a paraphrase, but it's always stuck with me.

Excellent story! These no-longer government employees don't know it yet, but losing their zero-value jobs likely will lead them to much better places.

Great article! The best gift any parent, boss, teacher mentor, or friend can do is to support someone's process of discovering their own resources and resiliency. Reality is an ambivalent and mecurical master. No amount of security, success, or comfort will prepare us to face the inevitable disorientating rug pulls. Sadly, our overly feminized culture is designed to prepare the young to be disconnected from the reality of the world as it is. As a woman, I've lived it and see the impacts everywhere. Thank you, sir, for being an intelligent, calm, strong, rational, thoughtful, and compassionate roll model of healthy masculine energy.

It's difficult to imagine remaking the DC area into any type of productive, non .gov economic activity. Over educated people, unaccustomed to labor, high compensation demands due to advanced degrees... in topics of no use to society, or in service to our fellow American Citizens.

In time I hope that the rest of my fellow Americans will realize how the field of Economics supported nefarious erosion of the US$, with impoverishing help from the US Treasury, Federal Reserve, Congress, Academia, more - all part of the theft, Useful Idiots in service of harming us, and this has been going on for decades.

Yep, as a small business owner, I had to do the nastiest jobs, slaving away to provide for my family. Now its the bureaucrats turn to find out what the real world is like.

Captain, this is a great article. I suppose I should be more 'sympathetic', because I feel sad for anyone who loses their job, but I can't feel any empathy for blond girl. I feel confident in saying she won't be missed on her job, her employers will be fine, and the world will go on without her. But at least she's had 15 years to feel indespensable, and feel comfortable in her jammies.
