The Nikki Haley clown car sputtered to its first “victory” in the 2024 Republican primary yesterday by garnering more votes than Donald Trump in the Washington, D.C, nominating contest; unfortunately for her, Trump still has an overwhelming delegates lead and is on his way to a massive victory and formal nomination; even Haley’s camp will have a hard time spinning this as a positive, given that most Americans absolutely abhor the federal government and its constant barrage of bureaucratic management and weaponization of government agencies against the citizenry it exists to serve.
While I had hoped to see Trump roll like a Sherman tank to a victory in every contest, I must admit that this sets up nicely. As I write this, Team Trump has already released a statement congratulating Haley on being recognized “Queen of the Swamp.” If you’re a Trump believer, or a believer that the modern rendition of the federal government should be all but abolished, then you need for Trump to get stomped in the swamp. All peace of mind depends on it. Allow me to explain:
Of all completed nominating contests so far, Michigan represents Trump’s forgotten man and woman the best. There, we have urban and suburban, exurban and rural, black and white, blue collar and white collar, secular and evangelical, and some shades in between. It went, in just two cycles, from being a 16-point Obama state to being won by Donald Trump in 2016 (and legitimately in 2020 by a comfortable margin), the biggest trend present in any state he pulled away from the Democrats, far surpassing that found in Ohio or Iowa. The results from the Michigan primary held last week:
Trump 68.1%
Haley 26.6%
Trump +41.5%
Now, for the results in yesterday’s swamp race:
Trump 33.3%
Haley 62.8%
Haley +29.5%
What this means is, Republican primary voters (all 2,030 of them) in Washington, D.C., voted 71 points moreHaley than voters in Michigan did (the difference between Trump’s victory margin in Michigan and his deficit in Washington, D.C.). Michigan runs on diesel, automobile manufacturing, farming, factories, and tourism, benefitting the work man and his family. Washington, D.C., runs on war, unmitigated crises, smoky backroom deals, lobbying, and selling out American citizens, benefitting the most corrupt, problem-perpetuating people in the world today. Still, surprisingly, a third of what amounts to mostly professional Republicans and Beltway bureaucrats smell a Trump victory on the horizon that will rain down administrative jobs throughout the capital.
Trump wins the D.C. primary while losing it – a true victory to the remaining states and territories whose citizens are tired of being sold out for the benefit of every nation but our own. For freedom to return to the states, Washington, D.C.’s stranglehold on power must be splintered to the corners of the country and fully diluted of its political power.
Congratulations, President Trump. You are not welcome in the swamp – and this blowout loss is a landslide win in the eyes of the forgotten man and woman.
Author’s Note: Thank you for reading my quick take on the Washington, D.C., primary results. While it was a small race with little mathematical impact on the overall nominating contest, its meaning is critical for understanding the impasse between the federal bureaucracy and the people. Only God-given insight could describe the results of the d.c. primary this way...excellent work.
I know a few (few!) people who, though their jobs depend on federal money, vote happily for Trump. Earning a living in the short term will be difficult, but we'll be free! I hope the 30% who voted for Trump in DC are of the same mind. It's hard to imagine what else they could be thinking.
