Captain Seth, those words that you delivered in Minnesota grabbed my attention…”the enemy within the wire” ought to scare us all. It’s one thing if that enemy is an outsider, dressed in foreign garb, speaking a different language, and pointing a rifle at your head. You know what to do with him. But the enemy you describe, with a broad grin, a red plaid shirt and a shotgun on his shoulder and a baby in his hand…maybe we shouldn’t vote for him and take some other form of action. The good news is, captain, that you are making us think differently about our options. Thank you for your ongoing service to our country sir.
The formula seems clear to me now. Candidates can gain political momentum and populist legitimacy not by hewing to conservative talking points or by meeting with Mitch McConnell but by opposing the administrative state. That’s the new litmus test for the party, the factor that separates the RINO’s from the reformers. Are you willing to reimagine foreign policy… even if it shorts contractors? Are you willing to trim the bloat at the DOE? Are you willing to eliminate the sinecures of nonprofit and ‘research’ organizations? Are you willing to close the border?
These kinds of commitments arouse energy and enthusiasm across the political spectrum and define a new kind of Republican. It’s these kinds of agenda items that have won the Right RFK and Tulsi and a hundred formerly liberal public intellectuals I could name.
These goals also force the Democrats to close ranks and defend the legacy media and intelligence agencies and pharmaceutical companies. In the long run this is political suicide. Being forced to defend THIS status quo is a terrible position for a party to find itself in. If the Left was smart they would pivot and join Trump to trim government and fight corporate and bureaucratic encrustations but they’re not smart. They’re captive.
Your third paragraph obviates your premise. Some of MAGA ill serves America, but some of it is totally necessary. The same could be said of almost any political movement. Don't through the baby out with the bathwater.
It’s never what they say…. It’s what they DO. Character is the only thing that matters in life and politics. So all the individuals involved in the process need to care.
We were warned by Benjamin Franklin that we were being bequeathed with a "Republic if we can keep it" and we almost lost it. With what seems to be Providential support, enough of the right kind of Patriots have been working for decades to win our Revolution 2.0 by waking up enough of We The People to provide the mandate of November 5, 2024. While much remains to be done, it seems clear that the pieces have been brilliantly put into place to come out victorious. We simply cannot allow ourselves as MAGA Patriots to be put to sleep again, as we were warned more than 2 centuries ago.
